We are talking about contrasting here which is evident from the line: as only by studying the differences and similarities in results can proper inferences be drawn. So juxtapose is the perfect fit. There is no other word that matches it or produces the same meaning.

Collate is a good option but juxtapose is not, because by juxtaposing we just put a thing next to other thing, without doing anything else with them. Collate however has a comparing part in it.
