In surveys Mason City residents rank water sports (swimming, boating and fishing) among their favorite recreational activities. The Mason River flowing through the city is rarely used for these pursuits, however, and the city park department devotes little of its budget to maintaining riverside recreational facilities. For years there have been complaints from residents about the quality of the river's water and the river's smell. In response, the state has recently announced plans to clean up Mason River. Use of the river for water sports is therefore sure to increase. The city government should for that reason devote more money in this year's budget to riverside recreational facilities.
Write a response in which you examine the stated and/or unstated assumptions of the argument. Be sure to explain how the argument depends on the assumptions and what the implications are if the assumptions prove unwarranted.
The author of this proposal to devote more money to river side recreational ativities offers an interseting argument but to move forward on the proposal would fdefinitrly require more information and thought. The assumption for providing the money to clean river water seems to be a good idea but this only argument doesnt provide a reason evidence for giving funds.
The author has put an argument that the residents of the city complaints about the qualiti of the water. The survey of the different people of Mason city needs to be recorded for analyzig the various responses to river quality. The argument failed to connect the survey records in response to water quality. It is required to note down what are the reasons that the wayer should be cleaned?in what way will the usage will be occured by the residents? How many of the people use this river water for sports or recreatiomal acticities?from how many years are the residents facing this problem?finally you need to survey the number of people who are willing to let the river water be cleaned?By collecting this kind of information there will be clear idea of survey .
In addition thea author also claims that Mason river flowing throughn this city is rarely used for these water sports. Here the author fails to support the argument for devoting more budget in cleaning the river water. What is the necessity to clean the river water if there is rare usge of this river water for such water sports or recreational activities?Spending too much on this cleaning of river water will be prodigal if there is no usage.A survey must be recorded by considering the people's responses in which way they ae going to use the river.
The river water if cleaned will increase its usage .This argument doesnot have any support. If the river water is cleaned there is no proof that how this river is going to be used. Will they use it mainly for wtaersports?or will they use this for other activities?Based on these assumptions the government will provide exact budget for cleaning the river. It is also necessary to find how many years will it take to clean the river. And will the governmnet will fully fund the budget for clenaing?
Finally ,it The argument about the devoting the budget didnot assume about the other important city projects or needs. As these projects of city will require more budget than that of the cleaning of the river. The argument would be strenghtened if the writer have defined the quantity/amount that is going to be divided for various activities of city, citing that there is sufficient amount of budget for other activities og the city. The author have simply sated that the budget will be provided without thi ing the budget situation whether can it afford for cleaning or not.
Examing the assumptions from various angles and factors involved the author must think of the justification for providing the budget ,Though its a hisghly possible element still it requires a warrant reasoning.
