Since sum of the angles of a \(\triangle\)= 180°
given one angle is 90°, so the sum of other two angles i.e. x° + y° < 90° ( Since y° don't constitute the full angle)

No, may be you are confused with right triangle and the obtuse triangle. Obtuse triangle is part of right triangle.
Y is not the full angle of right triangle.
In right triangle,
90 = x + (y+something)
hence, 90>x+y
Answer B.
