I was scheduled to give my GRE in a test center on 9th June 2021. However, on 31st May, I received an email saying that the test had been cancelled owing to the coronavirus pandemic. They asked me to postpone my test or to reschedule to the at-home test. I decided to give the at-home test and scheduled one for 10th June 2021. I took my test in Mumbai, India.
I passed all the required technical requirements. I was worried about the internet connectivity but it ran smoothly throughout the exam. My exam started at 10 am. The link for the exam was provided in the email. After clicking on that link, I had to test the technical requirements, take a photo, and take another photo of the ID. Once these requirements were fulfilled, proctoru application started automatically and then I was connected to a proctor. The proctor asked me to show the room, the desk, and the space under the desk. The proctor also asked me to show the laptop keyboard through the front camera of my phone and then asked me to keep the phone aside and to show the place where the phone had been kept. Once all the checks were completed, the proctor started the exam. Please note that the proctor has remote access to the desktop and the screen is shared throughout the exam.
My exam started by 10:15 am and sailed without any hiccups in the first half of the exam. In the second half, i.e., after the 10-min break, the exam showed an error and the proctor had to intervene to restart the exam. This was handled efficiently and my exam started from the exact question and time it had crashed. I finished my exam around 2 pm and did not have any other problems. I had to show that my whiteboard was erased before logging off. Overall, my experience with the at-home GRE was great.
I got VQVQV. The quant section was really easy, easier than the free practice tests ETS provides - I do not know why many found the quant sections difficult! Anyone having any doubts about the at-home GRE, do not fear! It is handled professionally, the proctors are helpful and their presence is not noticeable at all.
