Pity means compassion for someone.

Here the meaning of the sentence is: if we do something wrong, especially when we are wrapped into rage and as a result, we are not so lucid, we will have regret for some actions that we'd never perform in normal conditions.

Therefore, we will have for the rest of our life the remorse.
