\(S=156\)
\(\frac{S+x}{5}=35\)
\(S+x=175\)

Theory: Average = \(\frac{Sum Of All The Values}{Total Number Of Values}\)
The average (arithmetic mean) of 5 numbers is 35
Let sum of these 5 numbers is denoted by \(S_5\)
Using, Average = \(\frac{Sum Of All The Values}{Total Number Of Values}\) we get
35 = \(\frac{S_5}{5}\)
=> \(S_5\) = 35*5 = 175
After one of the numbers is removed, the average (arithmetic mean) of the remaining numbers is 39
Let x be the number which was removed
New sum = Old Sum - x = 175 - x
Total Number of Values= 5-1 = 4
=> Average = \(\frac{New Sum}{4}\) = \(\frac{175-x }{4}\)
=> 39 = \(\frac{175-x }{4}\)
=> 175-x = 39*4 = 156
=> x = 175 - 156 = 19
So, answer will be C
