Let's test some values...

Given: b is a multiple of positive integer a

So, it could be the case that a = 3 and b = 6 (since 6 is a multiple of 3)
We get:
Quantity A: ratio = 3/6 = 1/2
Quantity B: 1/2
In this case the two quantities are EQUAL

It could also be the case that a = 3 and b = 3 (since 3 is a multiple of 3)
We get:
Quantity A: ratio = 3/3 = 1
Quantity B: 1/2
In this case Quantity A IS GREATER

Explanation

Because you have variables, make your set-up on your scratch paper. Plug in different values for a and b.

First, try 2 and 4: \(\frac{2}{4}\) reduces to \(\frac{1}{2}\), making the quantities equal.

Eliminate choices (A) and (B).

Next, try 2 and 6. \(\frac{2}{6}\) reduces to \(\frac{1}{3}\), which is less than . Quantity B is now greater, so eliminate choice (C). You’re left with choice D.
