Take Six cakes : \(A , B, C , D , E , F\)
Each cake costs x dollars more than the next one below it in size
\(A = a\)
\(B = a + x\)
\(C = a + 2x\)
\(D = a + 3x\)
\(E = a + 4x\)
\(F = a + 5x\)
Price of the largest cake is $24.50.
\(F = a + 5x = 24.50\) _________(1)
If the sum of the prices of the six different cakes is $109.50
\(A + B + C + D + E + F = 109.50 = 6a + 15x\) _________(2)
By solving both the equation,
\(a = 12\) & \(x = 2.5\)

This is uniformly distributed series: 24.50, 24.50-x, 24.50-2x, ....
Mean of this series is 109.50/6 is equal to (24.50-2x + 24.50-3x)/2
Equation 109.50/3 = (49-5x) is solved for x
36.50 = 49 - 5x, x=12.5/5, x=25/10, x= 2.5. Answer is D
