If we notice the shaded area is a triangle with area \(\frac{1}{2}(AF)(12)\)
NOTE: The height would be width of the given rectangle.
So,
Col. A: \(\frac{1}{2}(AF)(12)\)
Col. B: \(78\)
Col. A: \(AF\)
Col. B: \(\frac{78(2)}{12} = 13\)
Now,
Let \(EF = x\) so \(AF = (18 - x)\)
Applying Pythagoras theorem in triangle AFE;
\(AF^2 = AE^2 + EF^2\)
\((18 - x)^2 = 12^2 + x^2\)
\(324 + x^2 - 36x = 144 + x^2\)
\(180 = 36x\)
\(x = 5\)
Thus, \(AF = 18 - 5 = 13\)
