Dear experts, I am going to retake GRE in order to increase my test result in the quantitative section. My August 06 GRE attempt score was Q157/V156. My repeat exam will be held on September 12 (ten days from now).
Today, I purchased and started practicing with Manhattan GRE (only the quantitative sections). I have already completed MGRE PT1 and scored Q161. I did not run into difficult questions, but due to time pressure had to skip one data set question towards the end of practice test. I am not expecting very high score boost for my forthcoming attempt. However, I reasonably want to cross Q160 in my GRE test, which will be soon.
Before August 06, I have scored Q 164 in my both ETS online test attempts (PT 1,2)
Recently, my practice scores were Q168 in
Kaplan free PT, Q 162 in Princeton Set 6, Q161 MGRE PT1
Can I count on scoring Q160 in my forthcoming GRE exam, which is scheduled on September 12?
Hi
motion2020I would not like to discourage, but such extrapolations might be wrong at times i.e.scoring 160+ on one of the unofficial mocks/practice, as nothing can compare to the official content, even though the unofficial source is a reliable one. You can see this video here
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U69BTder8lc , he scored negative score on verbal on unofficial tests but a perfect score on the official test.
Secondly, analyze the mistakes you make. I cannot emphasize this enough, this also goes for verbal. For eg. I make extremely silly mistakes, like calculation error or maybe and algebraic equation which has two values positive and prove that it is greater from the other quantity, what I should have also done is solved one more step and substituted those values in the equations to check whether it is correct or not. So, see what usual mistakes you make, whether its calculation or a concept gap or anything else, this will help you to see a pattern in your own mistakes and hedge them form the next time.
Also, I noticed something in your posts, that rather than delineating the steps you reach the answer, I know you might have solved it for yourself, but writing a full solution on the forum, will help you to know every step and avoid silly mistakes and the experts could help you evaluate your method, because at times we reach the correct answer by incorrect method. So maybe that might help!
And it is not quixotic to think to get a high score on quants, improving verbal in a short time is difficult for non-native, but for quants, if you know the topics in from the base and are confident on applying it you might surely score a 165+.
Wishing you luck for your test!
Hope this helps!
