A bookstore has a used book bin in which paperback books sell for $2 each and hardcover books sell for $5 each. Last week, from the used book bin, the number of paperback books that were sold was 42 more than twice the number of hardcover books sold. If last week, the bookstore received a total of $309 from sales of paperback books and hardcover books from the used book bin, how many paperback books from the used book bin did the bookstore sell last week??

Let P be number of paperbacks and H be number of hardcovers, So given 2*P + 5*H = 309 P = 2*H + 42 2 equations and 2 variables, solving for P will give P = 92.
