Because the wind doesn‘t always blow and the sun doesn‘t always shine, the power to be derived from these can be (i)________ and unreliable. But the authors dismiss this and argue for developing new energy storage facilities as if this were as (ii)________ as building a huge storage tanker to hold electricity generated when the wind is blowing hardest and the sun shining brightest. For (i), we are looking for something to complement the idea of "doesn't always blow" and "doesn't always shine". Looking at the words, we can cross out stationary. Unrelenting means unyielding, which is the opposite of the descriptions. Intermittent makes the most sense.
For (ii), prickly and thorny don't make sense in the context of the sentence. Easy is the only choice.
For (iii), We can cross out extraterrestrial as it doesn't make sense. Outlandish could fit, but with the rest of the sentence saying "existing only in the imagination, wonderful is a better fit.

If the last sentence is taken into account, "outlandish" might make some sense? "existing only in the imagination" doesn't necessarily make the idea "wonderful".
