Re: If a, b, c are three positive integers such that a and b are in the ra [#permalink]
1
a:b- 3:4
b:c-2:1
Their common ratio is B. Multiply 3:4 by 2, then similarly multiply 2:1 by 4, it will lead us to the ratio 6:8:4
Now convert them into their lowest form , hence it will lead us to 3:4:2
Sum up the ratio, It's 9, now look at the answer choices , and see which one is divisible by 9 and that's the answer.
hence answer is D. Boom

Re: If a, b, c are three positive integers such that a and b are in the ra [#permalink]
So can we only use the lowest equivalent fraction? For example, when I did the problem I multiplied 3:4 by 2 to give me 6:8 and 2:1 by 4 to give me 8:4. Both still have the matching term 8 giving me 6:8:4. However, when I add these I get 18 and none of the answers are divisible by 18.
