Let's solve the problem using two methods

Let's take each answer choice and substitute in the question and check which one satisfies
A) –9 . Let's put x=-9 in \(|x+2|=7\) and see if it satisfies the equation or not
=> |-9+2| = |-7| = 7 => POSSIBLE
B) –5 . Let's put x=-5 in \(|x+2|=7\) and see if it satisfies the equation or not
=> |-5+2| = |-3| = 3 \(\neq\) = 7 => NOT POSSIBLE
C) 3 . Let's put x=3 in \(|x+2|=7\) and see if it satisfies the equation or not
=> |3+2| = |5| = 5 \(\neq\) = 7 => NOT POSSIBLE
D) 5 . Let's put x=5 in \(|x+2|=7\) and see if it satisfies the equation or not
=> |5+2| = |7| = 7 => POSSIBLE
E) 7 . Let's put x=7 in \(|x+2|=7\) and see if it satisfies the equation or not
=> |7+2| = |9| = 9 \(\neq\) = 7 => NOT POSSIBLE
Method 2: Algebra
|x+2| = 7
=> x+2 = 7 or x+2 = -7
=> x = 7-2 or x = -7-2
=> x = 5 or x = -9
So, Answer will be A and D
