Re: GRE Math Essentials - Absolute Numbers [#permalink]
Since a2=(+a)2=(−a)2a2=(+a)2=(−a)2, the numbers +a and −a are square roots of a2a2. If a≥0a≥0, then +a is the nonnegative square root of a2a2, and if a<0a<0, then −a is the nonnegative square root of a2a2. Since a2−−√a2 denotes the nonnegative square root of a2a2, it follows that

a2−−√=+aa2=+a if a≥0a≥0
a2−−√=−aa2=−a if a>0a>0 [Shouldn't this be a<0]

That is, a2−−√=|a|a2=|a|

We should add specifically for every section. hand picked

However, you can just use the tag absolute value here https://gre.myprepclub.com/forum/search.ph ... er=sentbox

or in our question bank https://gre.myprepclub.com/forum/search.ph ... earch_tags

here the hard ones CQCQ based on the tag
