In the rectangular coordinate system above, the coordinates of points A and B are shown. If the dotted lines represent a second pair of coordinate axes with origin at A, and if the scale is the same on both pairs of axes, what are the coordinates of point B with respect to the second pair of axes?
(A) (-33,88)
(B) (33,.48)
(C) (33, -48)
(D) (97, 88)
(E) (97, -88)
Kudos for the right answer and explanation
65 - 32 = 33
So, point B is 33 units TO THE RIGHT of the "new origin" at (32, 68)
So, with respect to the second pair of axes, the x-coordinate of point B is 33
ELIMINATE A, D and E
We're left with answer choices B and C
At this point, we need not determine the actual y-coordinate of B (with respect to the second pair of axes)
Since point B is BELOW the "new origin" at (32, 68), we know that, with respect to the second pair of axes, the y-coordinate is NEGATIVE
ELIMINATE B
By the process of elimination, the correct answer is C
Cheers,
