Ans:17;since if a no is divided by 8 then it could have remainder values from 1 to 7 ,and for the remainder values when a no is divided by 11 is from 1 to 10 . So the greatest value of sum of remainders is 7+10=17.

(A) 15 (B) 16 (C) 17 (D) 18 (E) 19
When v is divided by 8, the remainder is w Here, 6 is the greatest possible value of w. For example, when v = 14, we get: 14 divided by 8 equals 1 with remainder 6
When x is divided by 11, the remainder is y Here, 10 is the greatest possible value of y. For example, when x = 21, we get: 21 divided by 11 equals 1 with remainder 10

Hi GreenlightTestPrep , could you not divide 15 by 8 ? That would leave a remainder of 7, therefore 10 + 7 = 17 Please correct me if my reasoning is wrong. Thank you in advance.
