why cant "past and present" be the answer to the third blank? the father is teaching his daughters about the thinkers of past and present. isnt it correct?

The girls received education from family friends. As it turns out, they were important thinkers on their own. Per see. eminent figures.

past and present make no sense because the thinkers were IMPORTANT for what they represented not because they were in the present or the past.

They represented to the family. Therefore , their status

This is a nice one.

The four Alcott girls received education in arts and science. It suggests that the learning was comprehensive.

Ralph Waldo Emerson, Margaret Fuller, and Henry David Thoreau - All these people are big names/famous people as the girls' father was a noted experimental educator and the last sentence suggests that they were important thinkers.

All these people were family friends and important thinkers in their own fields.

Broad, luminaries & in their own right

Answer B D H

Is there any special clue to identify blank 3? Even though I got the answer right through the elimination strategy, I can't find any particular clues.

The clue is teh flow of the sentence itself.

Their father was a great scholar and them (the others) as well. Turns out, they were eminent figures on their own as scholars.

There is nothing to think about it if not two seconds

I hope this helps
