\(8^2 = 64\)

\(4^3 = 64\)

So \(a^2 = b^3\); \(64 = 64\)

But \(a = 8\) and \(b = 4\) and \(a \neq b\)

Hope now is clear.

The last collection of questions for the GRE Quant - 2019

\(a\) and \(b\) are integers.

\(a^2=b^3\)

Quantity A
Quantity B
a
b

A) Quantity A is greater.
B) Quantity B is greater.
C) The two quantities are equal.
D) The relationship cannot be determined from the information given.

------------CONCEPT---------------
If a = -ve --> b = +ve
If a = +ve --> b= +ve

i.e. b will have same value for 2 values of a and hence can be greater as well as smaller than a.
Hence answer is D
