Remember that figures in GRE are not drawn to scale, so that, in this case, our rectangle can be shrunk or widened as we want.
Having said that, if our triangle were a square, then quantity A would have been \(\frac{\sqrt2 x}{x} = \sqrt2\) and quantity B \(\frac{x}{x} = 1\), so that A>B.
However, it can be the case that AB = 3, AD = 1 so that AC = \(\sqrt{10}\). In this case A = \(\frac{\sqrt{10}}{3} \sim 1\) while B = 3 so that A<B.
