Can you please explain the 2nd question and how to approach it?
I tried to apply a tight logic but still unable to come up with the right answer!

Hey,

Here it is :
Carcass wrote:
The idea is to read super carefully the part of the passage in which you are looking for the answer

many linguists are deaf to those instances in which the very nature of a language calls forth misunderstandings in everyday conversation, and in which, consequently, a word has to be modified or defined in order to present the idea intended by the speaker

Of the three examples shown B and C talks about the meaning. On the other hand, A talks about a reference on a daily basis.

A gives you the idea the speaker wants to convey NOT the explanation of a misunderstood meaning.

A is the answer

In the except question, you must find the answer that is not stated EXPLICITLY in the passage

In presenting the argument, the author does all of the following EXCEPT:

(A) give an example

Quote:
it is in some ways the exact counterpart of the conviction of the Manchester school of economics that supply and demand will regulate everything for the best.

(B) draw a conclusion

Quote:
so also many linguists are deaf to those instances in which the very nature of a language calls forth misunderstandings in everyday conversation, and in which, consequently, a word has to be modified or defined in order to present the idea intended by the speaker

(C) make a generalization

Quote:
The common belief of some linguists that each language is a perfect vehicle for the thoughts of the nation speaking

(D) make a comparison

Quote:
Just as economists were blind to the numerous cases in which the law of supply and demand left actual wants unsatisfied, so also many linguists are deaf to those instances

(E) present a paradox

NO paradox is stated in the passage.

Hope this helps

Sir, then I think you must change the OA. The OA states 'B' for now.

We can tackle this question from two point of views

The first one

a word has to be modified or defined in order to present the idea intended by the speaker

We need to address the IDEA of the speaker. A says is unclear WHO is the speaker

(A) It is unclear whom the speaker of the sentence is addressing.

From the second point of you which is specifically a grammar analysis

His own is unclear the referencebecause after Jhon we do have a comma and because the antecedent,

B is correct

each language is a perfect vehicle for the thoughts of the nation speaking vs supply and demand will regulate everything for the best.

The passage mentions this as opposite. My understanding is partial on this matter for example
Acc to 1st -mandarin is the perfect language for china because it best expresses the thoughts of people of china
BUT
Acc to 2nd - manadarin is spoken because of supply and demand balane..I am not grasping logic.Kindly explain
