The heights of the presidents of the US, in whole centimeters, are grouped into intervals as shown in the table above. Based only on the data in the table, which of the following could be the median height of the US presidents?

Solution:
Total number of presidents = 1 + 9 + 11 + 14 + 9 = 44
Thus, the median value will be = average of the 44/2 = 22nd president and the 23rd president
Performing the cumulative frequency table (shown in the image attached):
Note: Ideally we should have made a continuous table for the heights by changing the intervals to:
159.5 to 166.5
166.5 to 173.5
173.5 to 180.5
180.5 to 187.5
187.5 to 193.5
However, there is no issue even if we keep the table as given.
We have:
Median value = average of heights between 181 and 187
Thus, the median value must lie between 181 and 187, i.e. only Options B and C are possible
Answer B, C
