ASIDE: Since most countries use the metric system, the GRE does not assume that students know that there are 12 inches in a foot. On test day, this information would be provided.
Okay, so 12 inches = 1 foot
So, 2 inches = 2/12 feet = 1/6 feet
So, 4 inches = 4/12 feet = 1/3 feet
The length of a rectangular banner is 3 feet 2 inches, and the width is 2 feet 4 inches.
3 feet 2 inches = 3 1/6 feet = 19/6 feet
2 feet 4 inches = 2 1/3 feet = 7/3 feet
Which one of the following equals the area of the banner?
Area of rectangle = (base)(height)
= (19/6 feet)(7/3 feet)
= 133/18 square feet
= 7 7/18 square feet
Answer: E
