The Classical age of Greek culture ended with the defeat of Athens and [#permalink]

Hi void & sharminakter2418

This is just another unofficial question. So don't pay much attention as to why or how. Rather learn words the meaning their usage and move on. If you understand it at once well and good if not then ignore. And make sure you solve unofficial questions before moving to the official ones, this way you will know the difference between the official question and unofficial, the way the they are constructed and by doing this you can learn words and solve more official questions with high accuracy as well.

P.s this is just a suggestion you can ignore it. :)

Hope this helps!

I was able to solve the question and my reasoning was as follows. The key point to understand is that once Athens and Sparta were defeated the classical age immediately ended. This implies that creativity of the artists completely ended after the war. Thus, we need to choose a word that resembles completely stopping i.e. stifling. Curbing however means to restrict/restrain the creativity which would mean that there was still some amount of creativity that was left albeit very low, meaning that the classical age hadn't ended just lessened in size.
