College is a gateway to knowledge, yet, students have a hard time preparing to begin their journey of learning and that might be because of the intimidation of failure. However, if one does what one loves and enjoys, it reinstills confidence, determination, and of course, relieves the burden of not reaching one's full potential. Thus, I agree, that courses and electives taken up by students in college have a direct relation to their career paths.
The trend that today's generation believes in is to turn hobbies into a career, and that ultimately brings job satisfaction as well as births a fresher perspective to careers. College, as mentioned, can be a temple of learning not just the theoretical skills, but also learning the practical application of those skills. Thus, by knowing what one is aiming for helps in reaching goals faster, smarter, and in a better way. Time is the most valuable asset a student has and spending it wisely is always advisable. A person's interest determines not only his/her passion, but also how they visualize their contribution to society in the future.
The world wide web opens all sorts of doors for students, right from distance learning to resources from all around the globe. However, this availability also reels in confusion as to which route is the best route to learn. Choices in languages, technological domains, historical and cultural eras, etc, in courses and degrees available, add on to a young student's ordeal of selecting what is right - and what is right is relative to everyone. By knowing what you don't want, you know what you do want, so, taking up courses that might tickle your intellectual bone but not help to accelerate your future career path may still aid you indirectly, opening up the mind to newer perspectives and different situations.
Regardless, I believe that one should keep in mind the direction one wants to step forward in because time and resources devoted can never be bought back, so aiming for the right courses should be a priority when choosing to go for a college degree program.

A well codified essay you've written. However, I would like to suggest following updations to ameliorate the essay-
1. Add examples to your thoughts to make appear more pertinent.
2. Increase the length of the essay. Ofcourse quality over content is preferred but if you're good in coming up with a quality content then why not to make further efforts regarding the content for grade 6.
