Since apocryphal means (of a story or statement) of doubtful authenticity, although widely circulated as being true, wouldn't the answer to this question be D?

But we do have most biographers....therefore many people, who could be scholars or even simple neighbors, knew the story and told us over the certurries.
In the end the story was not narrated by unknowns so it can not be labeled as apocryphal.
