"Though" at the start creating a contrast between two part of the sentence,right? I am still not sure how "consummate professional" & "playful" serve to maintain that contrast.

Since we have the contrastor "though" at the beginning of the sentence, we need a word that is the opposite of "consummate professional". Only playful fits the bill.
