for 3rd blank, "abet" can be use , if we talk about essence of phrase ?
then why not expert go with "abet"....
does it make wrong question because two plausible option...

Blank (iii) must be a negative word to go along with “detracts,” and so discomfits (frustrates) is the only possible choice.
