The number of newspaper circulated in a college with 400 students such that every student reads 5 newspaper and every newspaper is read by exactly 40 students.

Explanation

Both the quantities are the same.
If every student read 5 newspapers, total number of newspapers printed = 5 * 400 = 2000.

Now each type of newspaper should be read by exact 40 students. Therefore the number of types of newspaper needed = 2000/40 = 50.
Therefore, you need 50 types of newspaper with 40 copies of each type for 400 students.

Does anybody think this question is poorly worded? For example - I could easily interpret that the "number of newspaper circulated" means the total number of newspapers (all copies of all types) and NOT the total number of types. This would then be 2000 and the answer would be that 2000 is greater than 50. This would be a different answer! Can anyone explain why my interpretation is not appropriate?!
