Distance travelled in Highway = 300 miles
Distance travelled in City = 190 miles
Let mpg in the highway be \(x\)
Then, mpg in the city will be \(x - 8\)
Let T be the quantity of fuel in a full tank (in gallons),
Thus,
\(x = \frac{300}{T}\) .... (1)
\(x - 8 =\frac{190}{T}\) ...(2)
Hence,
\(\frac{300}{T} - \frac{190}{T} = 8\)
\(T = \frac{110}{8} = 13.75 \) gallons
Quantity A = Number of miles per gallon the car travels in the city = \(\frac{190}{13.75} = 13.82\)
Thus, (A).
Distance travelled in City = 190 miles
