"If 3 of the people who are currently in line ahead of Shandra purchase tickets and leave the line" here, said that, leave the line, then my question is if 3 people gone then why I add 3 persons at the last? My answer is 19! But here the answer is 22 :( Can you explain, please?

The issue here is the language. Since there is an 'if' in the question the final answer expected is the total number of people in the line originally. Which is 22.

However you are correct that there are 19 people in the line when three people leave the line (22-3=19).

Since the question is based around 'IF three people leave the line'.

Hope this helps.

PS: This is not the best wording for a GRE question

So are they asking how many people remaining after those 3 people leave or before they leave?

Before

The question says if 3 people leave, i.e. in reality they may or maynot leave

Think Simply like this : There are 2000 learners in gre.myprepclub.com. If 3 people leave there will be 1997 people. what is the number of learners now?

You are correct. This is not the best wording for a GRE question. I picked up on that right away and sent an email to ETS about this, to which they agreed with me. It needs revision. Whew! Thank God I wasn't the only out there to berate ETS over this question!

Total number of persons in a group/class = Rank of a person from top/left + Rank of the person from bottom/right - 1

Question says currently 10 people behind Shandra. So the rank of Shandra from left should be 11

and totally 11 people before her. So the rank of Shandra from the right should be 12.

As per the formula, 12+11-1 = 22 in the group

since the question says that ''if 3 people leave the line'' the answer, I think is 19 not 22.

This is an official question sir

Quote:
You are given that if 3 people currently ahead of Shandra leave the line and no one else leaves, there will be 8 people ahead of Shandra. This means that currently there are 11 people ahead of Shandra. In addition to the 11 people currently ahead of Shandra in line, Shandra herself is in line, and there are currently 10 people behind Shandra. Therefore the total number of people in line currently is 11 + 1 +10, or 22. The correct answer is 22
