Let Carl = C and Karen =K
Yesterday (C-1)= 1.4(K-1) ,Today C= 0.8(K)
(0.8K-1) =1.4K - 1.4
-1+1.4 =1.4K-0.8K
0.4 = 0.6K
K=0.67
C=0.8(0.67)
C= 0.536
Quantity B is greater

(0.8K-1) =1.4K - 1.4
-1+1.4 =1.4K-0.8K
0.4 = 0.6K
K=0.67

Yesterday : If Karen had x CD's then Carl would have 40% more or 1.4x
Today : Carl gave 20% of his CD's to Karen - 20% of 1.4x is 0.28 so Carl gave 0.28 to Karen i.e. Karen's total number of CD now is 1+0.28 = 1.28 and Carl's remaining CD is 1.4 - 0.28 = 1.12
Clearly Quantity B is greater than Quantity A
Today : Carl gave 20% of his CD's to Karen - 20% of 1.4x is 0.28 so Carl gave 0.28 to Karen i.e. Karen's total number of CD now is 1+0.28 = 1.28 and Carl's remaining CD is 1.4 - 0.28 = 1.12
Clearly Quantity B is greater than Quantity A
