Let total = lcm(10, 2, 4) = 20x
2x scored 170
5x scored 168
10x scored 165
remaining 54 = 3x
3x = 54
20x = 360

We know that the remaining students who scored below 165 are 54.
We also know that 1/10 of the total scored 170, 1/4 of the total scored 168 and finally, 1/2 (half) of the students scored 165.
The question asks for the total number of students which can be found by setting up an equation :
--> ( Total - students who scored < 165 )= sum of the remaining students who
scored 170, 168 and 165
( x - 54 ) = 1/10x + 1/4x + 1/2x
x - 54 = 17/20x
20 ( x - 54 ) = 17x
20x - 1080 = 17x
3x = 1080
x = 360
correct answer, E
