(C) and (E) are gone because they’re positive words. You can’t eliminate (A) if you don’t know what contentious means. (B) doesn’t work because the clue is refused to dispute. That doesn’t work with indecisive. For the same reason, (D) doesn’t work either. So the correct answer is (A). Even though you might not know contentious, you can still get to the credited response.
