Triangle ABC and rectangle JKLM have equal areas. What is the perimeter of rectangle JKLM?
So we are looking for the side Jm or KL...
Let us take the triangle ABC with sides AB:AC:BC = AB:12:15..
two ways to find AB..
(a) AB = \(\sqrt{15^2-12^2}=\sqrt{225-144}=\sqrt{81}=9\)
(b) ratio of AB:12:15... now 12:15 is 4:5 with the hypotenuse as 5, so one of the most frequently used triplets in case of right angled triangle is 3:4:5.
so 3:4:5 = AB:12:15 = 9:12:15, so AB = 9
Area of ABC = \(\frac{1}{2}*9*12=54\)
Area of rectangle = 6*JM=area of ABC = 54... JM = \(\frac{54}{6}=9\)
Thus perimeter of rectangle is 2(6+9)=30
