The saying that “a thousand truths are told in jest” would be well-hee [#permalink]

blithe means ignoring or not realizing the real disadvantages of a situation or the possible bad results of something you do.
debonair refers to a man who wears fashionable clothes and is attractive, relaxed, and confident.
Whereas blithe is a NEGATIVE word, debonair is a POSITIVE word.
The two do not constitute a viable pair.

A really bad question, not just a bad GRE question.

A proper GRE question would be almost mathematical, and you can get the answer from the sentence itself. The clues found in the sentence will lead you to the answer, without any resort to outside knowledge
