Question: 4
Page: 97-98

The key words here are BELIEVED and PROVED

So, in the past anthropologists BELIEVED one thing, but now that science has advanced, anthropologists KNOW that thing is not true.

In other words, the science is getting better. It's IMPROVING.

Let's predict IMPROVING for the blank.

Check the answer choices.... B and D fit nicely with the prediction.

Answer: B & D

ASIDE: Many people will be drawn to E (VACILLATING), but this suggests that science can go from BELIEVING to KNOWING and also from KNOWING to BELIEVING. However, there are no contextual clues to back this up.

Re: Forty years ago, anthropologists firmly believed that Neande [#permalink]
Formerly scientists believed that no mating took place between Neanderthals and Homo Sapiens, but now genetic testing - which is a scientific device - proved them incorrect.

What does this tell you about the nature of science?

It tells us that science is constantly improving its methods and revising its conclusions as newer technologies and methodologies become available.

Therefore the answers are evolving and advancing.
