B, D The structure of this sentence is challenging: the blank is part of an example, so you should use the content of the example to predict. One type of food is “potatoes,” while the other is “chocolate.” Predict the answer: “specimens as ’different’ as potatoes and chocolate.” (B) and (D) match that prediction nicely and create sentences with equivalent meanings. (A) distributed does not work well with the syntax of the sentence and does not have a match among the answer choices. (C) regarded and (E) unexpected are wrong for a similar reason: they have no synonyms among the other answer choices. Finally, (F) reviled has a strongly negative connotation that the sentence does not support.
