The word "contradicted" is key here, so the word championed (meaning to support or defend something) and blank will be opposite meaning.
Most suitable answers are denounced and anathematized (meaning to condemn something).

From the tone of the sentence it has a shift. Clara has two views one was when she championed an idea then the other will be when she didn't champion the idea
Option A denounced fit very well
Option B anaemic means like of energy(you can't champion something you don't have energy for, so option B works also)
