GRE AWA Score: 4.5/6.0
1. Clear structure and argument development (Strong, but somewhat repetitive)
Your essay has a clear progression: individual benefit → societal benefit → counterargument → conclusion. This is exactly what GRE readers want. However, the structure becomes slightly repetitive, especially in the second and third body paragraphs, where “money → benefits society” is restated in multiple forms without deepening the analysis.
2. Reasoning is coherent but occasionally oversimplified
Your core claim (lucrative careers benefit both individuals and society) is logically consistent, but the argument leans toward economic determinism, it assumes monetary success directly translates to social good without considering counterexamples (for example, high-paying but socially harmful industries, or undervalued but essential low-income professions).
3. Use of examples is present but not fully developed
You include examples (artist vs lawyer, housekeepers, taxes, children’s education), which is good. However:
-They are mostly generic rather than concrete or nuanced
-They are used illustratively rather than analytically
-No real-world or empirical grounding is provided
GRE essays usually include more specific, vivid, or layered examples.
4. Language and style: strong control with minor awkward phrasing
Your vocabulary is solid and appropriate for GRE level (“compounding,” “agency,” “rebuttal,” “orientation”). However, there are occasional grammatical or stylistic issues:
“to pursue a similarly lucrative career thus compounding...” -----> slightly unclear structure
“the ability one gains through income allow them” -----> subject-verb agreement error
Some sentences are overly long and abstract, reducing clarity
5. Counterargument is acknowledged but not deeply engaged
You do include a rebuttal about passion vs. money, which is excellent. However, it is quickly dismissed rather than fully analyzed, which limits the sophistication expected for a top score (5.5-6.0 range essays typically engage counterarguments more seriously before refuting them).
Final Evaluation
Score: 4.5 / 6.0
Strengths: clear thesis, logical structure, relevant reasoning, adequate vocabulary
Weaknesses: limited depth of analysis, underdeveloped examples, minor grammatical issues, somewhat one-dimensional argumentation
