Why can't A be the answer?

It is easy to dismiss 'flash mobs' as being composed of mere tricksters, acting out in harmony in order to express their unruly natures; however, there is an art and a measure of social commentary present in their controlled (i) ________.

As also explained above...
1) There is a contrast in what this group can be thought of working on - mere tricksters acting out in harmony in order to express their unruly natures or an art and a measure of social commentary present in their controlled (i) ________.

So the blank should match with unruly nature, as the discussion in the reasoning of behaviour and not the behavior. Thus, look for something similar to unruly nature - CHAOS fits in properly..

OFFICIAL EXPLANATION

E

The sentence says that flash mobs consist of "tricksters" who "express their unruly nature," so the word should somehow indicate the idea of acting out or playing tricks. Choice (E) chaos is the only choice that adequately describes this situation. "Tricksters" with "unruly natures" "acting out in harmony" might very well create "controlled chaos." Choice (A) celebration does not ordinarily suggest "unruly natures." Choices (B) complacency, "smug satisfaction with an existing situation," and (C) consternation, "a sudden, alarming amazement or dread that results in utter dismay," do not fit in this context, while choice (D) "controlled conformity" does not properly imply that their actions are organized practical jokes.
Choice (E) is the credited response.
