The Republic of India currently ranks ninth in military _____ among nations, leading it to have the third-largest standing army in the world.


I did not think this question was so difficult, or at least pretty obvious

If we are talking about India's Army and it is ninth in the world rank or among the prominent nations AND India also has the third army in size what is the word to describe all this ?

Money or expenditure. Money make the army bigger because you pay the soldiers, you pay the ammunitions, the tanks, the guns and so forth

Expenditure is the right choice

because the question is not talking about army' skills or how much they are brave but about size in terms of tanks, elicopters or else...I.E. expenditure for the army: weapons, ammunitions, and so forth

But isn't the definition of army - a large group of people? how are we considering tanks and all here in this context?

An army is a group of soldiers and not common people gathered together.

The sentence intends to assess how the Indian army climbed the ranking as a powerful force among the other armies from different countries.

This is possible only by spending more money.

Thanks for this explaination. Helped me understand how "cause and effect" scenario worked in this question. My initial guess was "prowess". But then as Carcass mentioned, there wasn't any description of military strength being talked about in the question at all.
