(B) might describe the quoted lines: "It was a dark...night."
(C) is a trap that matches up with prosaic (unimaginative).

hello expert-i narrow down to two last option b and d. can explain in detail what makes D superior to B. I choose B because it like different than starting of novel compared to what other doing.
