An author is one person, yet the process of writing involves many people, ‘…collective nature…’. The rest of the sentence elaborates on this mismatch between the ostensible individual effort and the actual collective nature of writing a book. Therefore, we need a word that shows that stamping one name on the book actually misrepresents the collective nature.

(B)belies means to falsely represent
(C)informs does not match the context
(D)reaffirms is the opposite of the blank
(E)disambiguates, which means to make clear, does not fit the context
