avarice means greed, which makes no sense here.
diffidence means the quality of being shy and not confident of your abilities which is the opposite of the word that we require here .
apathy means behaviour that shows no interest or energy and shows that someone is unwilling to take action ,especially over something important (blank requires the opposite of this word)
here shape shifting deity 'transform into animals inorder to interfere with other gods plans and alliances'(hence clever dishonest behaviour that is used to deceive people ) and hence chicanery.
