A central watch tower, in the context of a prison, should give a panoramic view, if it is to serve the purpose of watching over the prisoners.

The prisoners never knew when the guards were watching them and when their gazes were elsewhere. The word is scruitinized.

Whether ethics can be considered quintessential, is a debatable topic. Another society is likely to consider imprisoning criminals on time as quintessential. But all can agree that musings on ethics is not something that everybody indulges in, rather it is only a few who are initiated into the world of metaphysics who indulge in it. Thus, the word is esoteric.

The correct choices in order are esoteric, panoramic and scrutinized.
