Commonplace seems a better fit for me here because it implies an action that could be expressed better than any of the other options.

The answer is thoughtful. This is because the sentence says Even those who disagreed with Carmen's views rarely faulted her for expressing them. So even though her views were controversial the only case where she would not be faulted is if they were thoughtful as well.
