Casual listeners are presumably not as attuned as researchers to the differences in question, so look for a word that means something like unnoticeable. Pertinent means relevant, which won't work in this context; the differences are presumably relevant to people other than casual listeners or the study would not have taken place. Blatant (flagrant or conspicuous) is the opposite of what we are looking for. The correct answer is indiscernible (imperceptible).
Where the second blank is concerned, we know from the word condemn that we are looking for a word with negative connotations that could describe a romantically assertive woman. Garish is not quite what we want; it means crudely or tastelessly colorful, showy or excessively ornate, and is not usually used to describe people. Capricious, on the other hand, is not quite negative enough for this context; it means erratic or flighty, which are not strong enough criticisms to warrant condemnation. Brazen (shameless or impudent) is a better answer.
