They have two different meaning.

I understand you point. However, your observation has a flaw.

Since you are studying for this exam you must know that. there is no middle ground. Or in or out.

I am sorry to say that but I am just honest: if a STUDENT does not have a good master of the English language, good math skills, good inference aptitude, in my humble opinion , he/she should not even try to attempt a test like this.

They are prerequisites or necessary ground to score well on the test

We are here to help you .....but the assumption is that you already have at least a good base
