Re: Bridges are frequently adduced as _______ exemplars of structural [#permalink]

1. The Logic Structure:

The sentence utilizes a Causal/Explanatory structure. The second clause (after the semicolon) explains why bridges are a certain kind of example.
- The Clue: The architecture is "conspicuously manifest" (out in the open) and the logic is "readily accessible" (easy to see/understand).
- The Inference: We need a word that means "easy to understand" or "transparently clear."
2. Evaluating the Choices (Grammar \& Logic Audit):
- A. abstruse: (Opposite Trap) Means difficult to understand; obscure. If the logic is "readily accessible," the example cannot be abstruse.
- B. perspicuous: (Correct) A high-level GRE term meaning clearly expressed and easily understood; lucid. This perfectly matches the "intelligible" logic of the original prompt while elevating the lexical difficulty.
- C. concerted: (Thematic Trap) Means jointly arranged or carried out; coordinated (a synonym for collaborative). While bridges require teamwork, the sentence is about the visibility of the structure, not the process of building it.
- D. inchoate: (Logic Trap) Means just begun and so not fully formed or developed (a synonym for elementary or rudimentary). A bridge is a finished, complex structure, so calling it "inchoate" is factually and logically incorrect here.
- E. fortuitous: (Context Trap) Means happening by accident or chance rather than design (a synonym for serendipitous). Engineering is the opposite of accidental design.

The Correct Choice:
Perspicuous (B) is the only adjective that logically bridges the gap between "conspicuously manifest" and "readily accessible."

The breakdown of the 'Thematic Trap' for Choice C is a solid point. It’s easy to get distracted by the engineering context, but sticking to the 'readily accessible' clue makes the choice of perspicuous feel inevitable. Great way to categorize the distractors. Thanks!
